CF 8 on Macbook

CF8 on OSX

The older my home desktop PC gets the less I seem to be using it. I am finding myself using my Macbook more and more to a point where my screen is no longer plugged into the desktop and just waiting to plug into the external display of the Mac. So what does this mean for my laptop? Well for one thing I need Coldfusion running locally on the Mac to continue my work at home.

After recently upgrading to Leopard I noticed a few posts and stories that CF8 won't "just work" under Leopard. Without bothering to do any research I installed CF hoping to use the internal webserver. This plan basically failed to render the first time I tried some simple cfm's. Back to the drawing board ( google ) where I found this great post: http://renaun.com/blog/2007/08/07/230/ I followed the simple steps which bypassed my next hurdle, installing MySQL. Needless to say this worked like a dream and I had my code up and running and communicating wth Flex in no time. So big thanks to Renaun.

As a comparison I did some massive imports from XML to MySQL on the Macbook ( 1.8 Dual Core ) compared to my work machine Vista ( Core 2 Duo 2.2 ) with little or no difference in speed. Which is great considering the Vista machine was connected to a DB ( MsSQL ) server on the LAN.

If you want to save yourself some effort next time you install ColdFusion, reference Matthew Wallace's post on installing ColdFusion 8 on Leopard using MAMP:
